locked Text message window
I have searched the help and this group but cannot find an answer.
Is there a way to stop the text message window from opening automatically? I had hoped that blocking incoming messages would do the trick, but it does not. -- 73 de Guy G4DWV 4X1LT

The only way to stop the Text Message window from auto-opening is to disable receipt of Text Messages. You can confirm that Text Messages checking is turned off by examining the "Help -> About" window of the JTAlert window. Scroll down to the "JTAlertV2.Manager ..." section and check the status, it should show "Text Msgs : Initialized : YES (stopped)" You can further confirm that receipt of Text Messages is turned off by sending your self a message. It will never be received as JTAlert will never go-onlne to check for waiting messages. If the status shows "Text Msgs : Initialized : YES (started : 17)" then you will continue to receive messages. de Laurie VK3AMA

Why does anyone want to turn messages off? I have wished many many times that a station had messages turned on so I could let them know that they were transmitting images or distortion or a broad signal that is occupying 3 slots on the band. Often someone needs to tell a station that their clock is off too much so they can quit useless calling. I'm sure much thought and work went into programming this very useful part of a great program and it's a shame folks disable it.

Not to be snarky, but perhaps you have discovered why... They don't want to hear about it. It seems most stations have it off. Sad to see.

I have to agree with Keith & Dave, the text messaging is a great tool for the reasons stated above. I also use it to say Hello to friends. 73 Mike KK7H

If it is the latter, does it appear automatically when JTAlert is started or at random times? de Laurie VK3AMA

Hi Laurie,
I have attached what shows at startup and at random times. -- 73 de Guy G4DWV 4X1LT

Hi laurie,
That option is greyed out when the "Receive text Messages from other JTAlert users" is not selected, as indeed are all the options. I had assumed that that meant all the options were set to the state as if the box were unticked. I do not recall ever having to enable an item to un-grey out an option so I could change it. OTOH, my chemo may be pickling my brain. -- 73 de Guy G4DWV 4X1LT

Simple fix, temporarily enable the "receipt" checkbox, uncheck the "restore" check box, uncheck the "receipt" checkbox. de Laurie VK3AMA
