Your getting that error because the installer could not replace a file because it was still open (running). Simple fix, restart your PC and then run the setup again.

What is the spec of your PC, What version of Windows, how many CPU cores, how much installed memory? Are you running other applications like a multitab web browser?

JTAlert is very unlikely to be directly affecting the WSJT-X received audio. When WSJT-X is in RX mode, when your observing a distorted waveform in the Waterfall window, JTAlert is sitting there "twiddling its thumbs", sitting idle waiting for WSJT-X to process the audio and produce decodes ate the end of the Rx period. It is only after decodes have been produced that JTAlert CPU usage will increase, the same as WSJT-X at the end of the Rx period.

During Rx, before decodes processing, WSJT-X and JTAlert are both effectively idle, this can be observed in TaskManager.

JTAlert audio is only played after processing decodes and generating Alerts and that wont affect what is happening during WSJT-X receive. The simplest way to test is mute the JTAlert audio via the "Sound" menu. When set to "Sound OFF" there is zero audio coming from JTAlert.

If shutting down JTAlert improves the visual appearance of your waterfall, that suggests that your PC is very likely heavily loaded and the freeing up of cpu/memory resources by stopping JTAlert was the real fix. You will likely see similar results if you shutdown other applications like browsers, email client, skype, etc.

Steve,

JTAlert will continue to Alert on a Wanted entity until it is removed from the Alert Database except when the Callsign just logged becomes a B4 then that Alert is no longer triggered for that Callsign only (unless you explicitly set the ignore B4 status for the Alert) but will continue to be Alerted for other non-B4 stations.

Most users want some sort of QSL confirmation recorded in their Log before an Entity is considered not needed and this is where the "Rebuild Alert Database" operation comes into play.

Having said the above, the next JTAlert release, already built and undergoing testing, has a new feature to cater for users who don't need a QSL confirmation for an Entity to be considered no longer needed. Simply logging is sufficient to set a previously needed entity as no longer needed and will subsequently no longer be alerted. This new feature can be set on a per-Wanted Alert basis, so could be set for say Grids, but not DXCCs as an example.

The relevant release note from the next release...
    - Auto Clear Alert Triggers: New "Auto clear triggered Alert entity after
logging" option available for each of the 8 Wanted Alert types. When set
this option will automatically clear an Alert entity (eg. Grid) after
logging a QSO, thus avoiding the need to run a "Rebuild Alert Database"
operation to remove "worked only" entities. Note: This is only suitable
for users who don't require any form of QSL confirmation (as read from
their log during a Rebuild operation) before an Entity is considered no
       longer needed.

That only applies to WSJT-X automatically going into TX mode. If the Callsign clicked belonged to a non-CQ decode, WSJT-X will fill the DXCall field and setup the Std Msgs but not enable TX.

Setup of WSJT-X in response to a Callsign click in JTAlert is automatic. There is nothing to set in JTAlert or WSJT-X.

Since this was working previously and has now stopped I suggest a Windows restart. This has become the standard Win10 fix in recent months. When applications, not just JTAlert, start to misbehave or exhibit previously unseen behaviors, the usual fix before going down the "changing settings" path is to perform a Windows restart.

I should have added it is in access VBA so may well be a limitation of the ‘language’. Have since been developing in VB.NET which has fewer issues.

Thanks Laurie for that information.
In my app I had tried to simply send a link out to my default browser for QRZ lookups but kept getting an error if the browser was not IE. I didn’t want that set as default so hard coded it leaving default (at the time) as Firefox, hence my comment.
I will attempt to try it again (3 year old bit of code) as using IE is not my thing.

FYI, JTAlert does not hard code any browser. The Browser used when opening a URL from within JTAlert is controlled by Windows,

JTAlert is simply sending a command to open a URL.
eg.

ShellExecute("http://www.qrz.com/db/" & $call)

Check the link in JTAlert to your online call sign lookup page.  I use QRZ.  There are others, but make sure the link I still working.

The title bar of my JTAlert (v2.16.12) has (Updates) in it. What does that mean?

There is no way, from within JTAlert, to change the Browser used to open the QRZ links. JTAlert does not control what browser is used, that is dictated by Windows and what "associations" it has set.

JTAlert is simply sending an instruction to Windows to open a specific http: link.

It indicates that one or more of your installed HamApps programs has an update available.
Open the Settings widow and navigate to the "Program Updates" section and see what has an update available. You may need to use the "Check foe Updates" button if any download errors are shown.

I wrote an application which needs to access QRZ.com and it simply would not pass the required parameres to the default browser, actually chrome in my case as well.
I had to hard code it to Internet Explored, a program which I try to avoid.

Sounds like Chrome has not been set properly as the default browser.

Go to start, settings, apps, default apps and scroll down to web browser, click on this and select chrome.
