I think this may qualify as a bug or two....

Had a few entries in my log where a Hawaii was recorded with DXCC 291.  Same for Alaska, and Puerto Rico.

Seemd that anytime a query against your log or other source and the state comes up as one of those 3 is should immediately put the correct DXCC for them.

Of course don't have any debug or proof that JTAlert was at fault.....but thought you might want to check the logic and see if this may be a problem.

Also concerted about a late logging not doing the XML lookup (when you've moved on to another QSO before logging with WSJT-X).

Ray,

In my case, I am running only Windows Defender on a Win 10 machine at OS Ver 1903 Build 18362.476.  I have setup only one folder to be excluded and it is C:\Program Files (x86)\HamApps\JTAlert.  That's it and I have recently installed 2.15.1, 2.15.2 and 2.15.3 and each version has installed without issue and have run without issue.  I did have an issue similar to yours on an earlier version of JTAlert and at that point I created the above mentioned exclusion.  All has been fine since.

From what you have said, I suspect you have already excluded this folder but this has been my experience.  Hope it works out for you.

Laurie,

I was afraid my explanation was not real clear.  The point I was trying to make was that after installing 2.15.3, the Program Updates section of Settings DOES show the callsign database version that was included with 2.15.3 which is 2019.11.16.  I did not manually install 2019.11.16 and I was not at that level before I upgraded.  This seems to be in contrast to what is in the release notes.

I know everybody runs into this and I hear others say that you can get around the problem, but I am stumped.

I think I have read everything written on the subject, I have uninstalled my anti-virus App, leaving only Win Defender.

I have added several possible JTAlert folders to the WinDef exception list…but…

It STILL won’t let me run JTAlert!

Whenever I think I have made a breakthrough and at least reached the stage where it runs….then, within a few minutes it disappears and the desk-top or other links tell me that the program has been moved or uninstalled.(It must be Defender doing this).

I am not new to JTAlert, I had this sort of problem when I first installed it 3 (or so) years ago, but then somebody helpfully told me that although McAfee would block it, another anti-virus would not, so I switched to that alternative and bingo! It worked.

This is a new installation and there is no such luck so far this time. It is as though the Anti-Virus software is waging a vendetta against me, or it.

Is there no hope of me ever getting JTAlert working?

I would love to hear that others have fought this battle and won, and how they did that.

Also, if one person does it and the Anti-Virus folks relent, why doesn’t it work for everybody else?

Laurie, I installed 2.15.3 a couple days ago and expected the Callsign Database to update to 2019-11-16 but have JTAlert still show 2019-11-07 which is what I had installed manually after upgrading to 2.15.2. (per the release notes).  To my surprise, after 2.15.3 installed, JTAlert indicates the Callsign Database to be at 2019-11-16.

Laurie,
A followup on our previous discussion:

1) I did my first ever LoTW download today (my bad) and it populated the “DXCC Worked/Needed” section of JTAlert  as you said it would👍. Of 230 LoTW-verified entities, I have about 30 QSO discrepancies I need to manually override in JTAlert that HRD is somehow not giving me credit for. No big deal.

2) BIGGER ISSUE: Double HRD Logbook entries. I followed your suggestions today. I first  shut off WSJT (via Settings/reporting/uncheck ADIF broadcast). I made an FT8 QSO then pushed the “Log” button on the WSJT dialog box. This resulted in a worse situation with logging only two partial entries to the HRD Logbook (one with a very old and wrong default date 1/1/OLD). So I re-enabled ADIF broadcast and made another QSO. EVEN WORSE OUTCOME: This time I got two partial entries (not one) and one complete entry.

So I tried Plan B and disabled logging from HRD Logbook (configure/QSO forwarding and unchecked “receive QSO notifications from WSJT”). Made another QSO. This time I got only one QSO entry but absent name and QTH information. Finally, I turned off BOTH WSJT and HRD logging functions and got the same (as last) result.

With both WSJT and HRD being disabled, do you have any ideas why JTAlert doesn’t fully populate my HRD Log with missing name and QTH info? My current workaround is to open up the QSO info box on HRD Logbook and simply click “look up”. QRZ.com populates the HRD Logbook and I push “update” to save. Perhaps this is the “normal” process when using JTAlert?

Any additional insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mike WB6UTW

Two Questions:
1) Once I update my HRD Logbook, when I press Rebuild & Update Log/“scan (all)” will your two table country/state lists under View/DXCC and View/State reflect those confirmations?
2) How do I eliminate the “double logging” into HRD after pressing the Log button on the pop-up WSJT dialog box after a QSO? I enabled this feature in HRD Logbook with WSJT before installing JT Alert and it works great but now I get a partial redundant logging on HRD presumably by JT Alert.

Thanks for a great product👍

Mike WB6UTW

1. Yes. The Scan Log rebuilds all possible Wanted List Band/Mode tracking combinations automatically.

2. To eliminate the double logging you need to turn off the feature in HRDLogbook to log the adif broadcast from WSJT-X (sorry I don't what its name is or where to find it). If you can't find the setting in HRDLogbook, you can turn off the ADIF broadcast in WSJT-X (bottom of the Reporting Tab of the Settings).

Hi,

Since the "HamApps" was dropped from the filename of JTAlert, the files for download have lost their consistency. That means I have to rename at least one to keep them together in my downloads.

Could either the old name be reinstated or could  "JTAlert" replace the "HamApps" in the other two?
