Paul,

JTAlert will abort trying to start if it is unable to determine your Callsign as that controls which config file to load.
Either the necessary Registry entry is missing or your PC protection software is actively blocking JTAlert from reading the Registry key (which JTAlert creates and owns).

You can check the Registry by using Regedit and navigating to the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HamApps" key and looking for the "callsign" entry.
eg.

If the callsign entry is present then you need to look to your PC Protection software as it is likely the culprit with some overzealous settings. Any File/Folder exceptions you have added will not prevent Registry read blocking, that will be (usually) hidden deep within the Protection software settings.

If the callsign registry entry is missing, you can add it (new string value).

Alternatively you can create a new JTAlert shortcut specifying the callsign. This is the method I use to test multiple different callsigns.
Simply copy the JTAlert shortcut you normally use, right-click that new shortcut, select "Properties" and edit the "Target" field of the "Shortcut" tab adding the following /callsign=
VE3PS after the /wsjtx or /jtdx parameter.
eg.

locked JT-Alert Will Not Run

Paul

I have installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled the JT-Alert app 4 times and I am still unable to get it to run.

Following each installation, I ensure that my virus scanner will exclude the HamApps folder, as I have seen and heard that security software can be an issue.  Then I launch HRD and WSJT-X (which is configured for HRD to be the 'radio', rather than my actual Kenwood TS-870S, as HRD controls controls the radio).  I do it this way, because the digital modes represent perhaps 20% of my operation, with CW and SSB being the other 80%.

When WSJT-X is running, I then attempt to launch JT-Alert.  A small window pops up [Reading Settings Data/Standby] and after perhaps 40 seconds a second small window pops up with an error message [Missing or Invalid Callsign/Program will now exit].  The only option is to click OK, and the program does indeed close.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

When JTAlert scans for wanted prefixes, it finds no prefixes.  Previously, it found 400 fewer than the number of prefixes, so it reported many false positives.

I also scanned for states and it found none.  I set the states for each band manually.

How do I get it to find all of the prefixes?

Thanks,

The default timeout is 20 seconds. I wouldn't characterize that as too short.

While I can alter the default setting to "No Auto Close" that will only affect new users with newly created config files. The default value only gets assigned when reading the setting during startup and the settings is not found (as with a new empty config file). The default is only applied once which creates the missing setting and will never be performed automatically again.

Changing any existing setting for current users is not something I do unless it is an unavoidable change due to code/functionality changes (ie is deemed mandatory).

Altering the auto-close property of the text message window for all exiting users is not an option IMO. I will however set the "No Auto Close" as the new default starting with the next JTAlert release.

There is no separate install of the Alt Layout version, that was abandoned back in version 2.14.5. Both layout types are automatically included in the one installer file.

Mike,

The Scan Log & Rebuild does not influence the B4 display, it is only used to maintain recorded the Wanted Alert lists.

B4 determination is done using a direct lookup of the users log file with the results cached for speedier lookup on later decodes on the current Band.

Neil,

When you say you don't get the B4's on 15m is that universal affecting all 15m callsigns or do some 15m callsigns correctly show the B4 but the number is less than you expect?

What logger are you using with JTAlert?
All B4 checks are done against your Log, does it have the 15m QSOs.

To close the program in v2.15.3, clicking the X in upper right corner does not work. I have to use Alt-F4, or "close window" on the Task bar.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled v2.15.3 several times including power cycling after uninstalls. Tested installations include the standard and Alt Layout versions, standard version alone, Alt Layout version alone, running in normal mode and as administrator. In all cases JTAlert works, decodes, although a little slower than usual, but I cannot get access to the menus, do scans, etc., and when I want to.

This is a know problem with a very easy fix. You need to start JTAlert using the correct "Alt Layout" shortcut. The shortcut with the Green music symbol icon when using WSJT-X and the Purple icon for JTDX.

Can we assume you have done "Scan Log and Rebuild" ?

And if you are not seeing B4's you can submit a support request in Help/Contact Support -- be sure to turn on debugging in Settings/Enable debug recording -- I think it's still needed for bug reports.

HamApps is hosted on the same Server as HamSpots, can you reach HamSpots.net ?

Try a ping or tracert of HamApps.com, both should resolve to 108.160.156.103
If you don't get that IP then it is likely a DNS issue with your ISP and you will need to contact them to resolve.

Let me tell you, Michael is a great guy. I bet he spent an hour on the phone with me, setting up all kinds of stuff. I don't have the heart to tell him that my first contact failed to log. I got the same 'failed to log' error message, and then it strangely posted the contact to QRZ.com. Back to pen and paper for me.
