I'll assume (dangerous I know) that all the chit-chat is based on Win 10, I was
a loyal AVAST user for over ten years, eventually I got I tired of the
relatively recent constant up-selling their marketing department was (is?)
doing. It was around this time that I realized that Win 10/MS had their own very
effective anti virus software, free I will add. So, I gave it a try, it worked,
yes it would bring my attention to the fact that there was some unknown software
it wasn't familiar with, I would just say run it anyway. Now there have been
several improved versions of JTAlert since telling MS Defender the software was
safe yet I have not been notified about subsequent versions of JTAlert.

I theorize that as Win 10 has a different model to traditional software in that
it is updated semi-automatically, that there must be a two way communication
between each user and MS HQ, ergo any new software that MS Defender encounters
and is OK'd by a user gets trickled down through the update networking, clever,
convenient and scary all at the same time.

The above is my take on the situation, I have been wrong in the past though...

I have been using BitDefender for a number of years and the probelm with false
positive detections in each update of JTAlert seems to have got worse of the
last few months.

The 2.15.10 update that I just installed has cause reports of different
'Trojan.GenericKD.xxxxxxx' in JTAlert.exe and JTAlert_AL.exe as well as a
'Potentially malicious application' report for JTAlertSettings.exe (with no
indication of what that means).

I have submitted all 3 for checking, and submitted an update for my on-going
ticket with them regarding this everytime JTAlert is updated with a note about
how annoying this is and that I hope a permanent solution can be found (I
doubt that will happen but we can only hope).

To allow the latest version to run I had to allow BitDefender to do it's
'disinfection' and then go to the 'Notifications' and select each of the
reported problems (capture the information for submitting the False Positive
reports) and click the options to Restore the file (it even removes the
Desktop Shortcuts so have to restore those too). The action of Restoring the
files automatically creates a scanning exception and allows the programs to
run. (I remove the exceptions in a few days after they have fixed the
database).

I use https://www.bitdefender.com/submit/ (
https://www.bitdefender.com/submit/ ) for the submissions.

Any ideas what got corrupted? It seems all the title bar has shifted left. And no access to settings

Missing or misplaced menus in the titlebar is a know problem affecting some Win10 users. Non-functioning close button is also part of the same defect. This is highlighted at the top of the JTAlert download page.

The only solution is to start JTAlert using one of the "Alt Layout" shortcuts.

locked Re: JtAlert - Inability To Filter Already Worked Prefixes

Greg,

Probably the only way to do this is under the "Scan Log and Rebuild" area in Settings. With "Enable this Scan" checked (which it probably already is), check "No QSL Confirmation (Any Worked Station)". This should keep JTAlert from alerting for a prefix you have already worked, even if it isn't confirmed. However, if you are interested in the prefix award, you need confirmations, and this solution won't help. If you aren't interested in the prefix award, go to "Wanted Prefix" under Settings, and uncheck "Enable Wanted Prefix Alert".

If you are interested in the prefix award, you want to let JTAlert scan for confirmations. In that case, you will get alerts for prefixes worked but not confirmed. That's the only way it can work,

I confirmed that it is not an issue with the version of JTAlert.  I reinstalled 2.15.8 and it does the same thing.

How do I get it to scan the HRD logbook and find the prefixes?  Every QSO in the database has a value for prefix.

locked Rescanning log for prefixes

Stuart, K2YYY

I'm using 2.15.10 (and HRD v6.7.0.254) and after upgrading from 2.15.8 the scanning for prefixes identifies fewer prefixes confirmed than previously.

Doesn't the prefix scan use the HRD database to search for prefixes?  The Standard ADIF file is unselected.

Thanks,

de MIke W9MDB

Mike,

Thanks, but no cigar.

The problem is not with SSL libraries.
The problem is with the new Client authentication method introduced with MySQL 8.0.

The JTAlertV2 MySQL support uses a library that wraps the libmysql.dll client file.
Both the library and the dll are old and do not support the new authentication method of MySQL 8.0.
At this time, I have been unable to locate a new library (I don't expect I will).

I was able to workaround this by enabling Legacy Authentication on the server.

I understand this may not be an option for some MySQL Server users, but it is the only fix at this time.

BTW, this change broke many MySQL client applications when first released, including at one time, the official MySQL workbench app.

FWIW, JTAlertV3 will not have this problem as it uses the official Oracle .NET MySQL connector.

wow....thanks for your quick response.
Ok I got it started from the command line using jtalert_al.exe/wsjtx
What bat file might you suggest (I haven't constructed a bat file in a long time..ha) that would also not start the sound option as this bombs out the program as well
tnx, Jim

Jim,

To avoid the JTMode selection window, which I am assuming is what is causing your crash, you need to start JTAlert using the correct command-line parameter, either "/wsjtx" or "/jtdx". This is why the JTAlert installer creates shortcuts which have those parameters already set. Starting the JTAlert.exe file directly will always present that window as the command-line parameter is missing.

I select speakers/headphones (Realtek) and the box crashes with the only option to close out as it goes into "not responding" /close the program.

I can see by the responses I should have been more explicit.  I do manually update HRD Logbook from LOTW.  HRD is logging the mode as FT4. The entries are marked as confirmed in the log but the scan and rebuild does not update the Wanted US State check boxes.

I manually updated everything today (what a pain) so let's see what happens from here.

No problems. Glad you have it sorted. From your description is sounds very much like a broken or missing index in the .mdb database since apart from the slowness it was working.
