OK John,

Not getting a "success" or "fail" popup usually means that JT-Alert didn't try and log anything because it didn't detect a change in the JT65-HF log file. When you added the backslash to the JT65-HF log path did you stop and start JT65-HF and JT-Alert as mentioned in the instructions? If so, then there is most likely something else causing the problem.

I need to have a look at the session file JT-Alert creates. Since your on XP, have a look at the following path
C:&#92;Documents and Settings&#92;<UserName>&#92;Local Settings&#92;Application Data&#92;Ham-Apps&#92;JT-Alert&#92;<CallSign>&#92;sessions&#92;
substituting your Windows username and the Callsign used with JT-Alert. In that directory will be several files.

First, run JT-Alert and attempt to log a QSO so that the failure gets recorded in the session file, stop JT-Alert and then email me the sessions.txt file from the above directory.

Good evening Laurie,
I finally realized what you ment when you refered to the "Log Contact window (big Daaaaa on my part). However it already has a backslash at the end of it. (by the way for some reason I not showing your picture you sent .. Just a white square with a red X in the corner.

Any way to make a long story short .. In my searching thru the file system this nite I discovered that I have TWO copies of JT65-HF on my computer both version 141. I have removed both of them and will reload ONE tommorrow. Also will reload JT-Alert 150.

Seeya when thats done and tested. Thanks for your patience with me.

To determine the resources  individual processes are utilizing, run task manager and look at the individual processes in the processes tab.  If you click on the ‘CPU Column Header’ 2 times (not double click) it will sort from highest CPU process to lowest.  Likewise for the Memory column.  This way you can find out what is taking up so much processor and memory.

My biggest killer of CPU is usually HRD, which is normally around 50%.  I have experimented with the polling interval, for the radio, on HRD, thinking that might bring down the CPU usage, but it made no difference at all.

 

FWIW, on my machine, JT65-HF runs about 5% CPU until it hits the decode (which normally lasts for less than 1 second) at which time it spikes at around 30%.  JT-Alert hits 1% CPU every couple of seconds.  These two apps are very tame on my machine.

Please explain to me how? How do you shut down all the background programs to get the usage down that low. I have 2.6gb processor AMD64 and 4gb memory and the lowest cpu usage I get is 38%.

"Cleaner validator" is part of Comodo System Cleaner, and it had a problem with consuming too much CPU...but that was fixed with newer updates.

System Idle being high is a GOOD thing.  It is a placeholder process designed to keep the CPUs ready without actually consuming CPU time. The higher it is, the less your CPUs are actually working.

Hello Laurie,

I just discovered your nice JT-Alert software. Thanks.  It seems to work fine on my humble netbook (with Win 7 32-bit, JT65-HF, HRD and HRD Logbook with Access DB).

Just a couple of suggestions for a future version :-

1.  It would be nice to have an option for having JT-Alert “always on top” (JT65-HF fills my netbook’s small screen, so it would be convenient to have the option of "permanently" overlaying it with JT-Alert).

2.  Would it be possible to have the contents of the “notes” field in JT65-HF's "Log QSO" transferred by JT-Alert to the HRD log along with the other fields transferred?

Hi Tony,

Glad HRD logging is working for you.

There is an option for JT-Alert to be on-top of all other windows. I just checked my code, and I had disabled it during some testing I was doing for the docking option. It will be available again in the next release.

JT-Alert does save all the additional data visible on the JT65-HF Log Contact window. The Notes are getting stored in the Notes field of the HRD log. I just checked and can confirm the data is there. Interesting, in HRD, when modifying a QSO, which provides a multi-tab interface to all the data fields of the QSO, the Notes field is not shown. However, if you change the layout of the QSOs Grid display adding the Notes field, the Notes data is visible. HRD also has a Comment field which is always visible when in the Modify QSO view (just above the tabs).

Unless I get any objections, I will be changing the saving of the JT65-HF Notes data to the HRD Comments field in the next release.

Apologies for the delay, time difference & a busy morning is my only explanation.

I have checked CPU and RAM usage in several situations. I first of all shut down everything I could with the exception of AVG free (latest 2012 version) and got the following results:-

HRD alone CPU 0% RAM 1.78GB
HRD + JT65-HF CPU 1% RAM 1.79GB
HRD + JT65-HF+ Alert 1.5.0 CPU 1% RAM 1.80GB
HRD+ JT65-HF + Alert 1.5.0 During decode of 3 messages CPU 11% RAM 1.85GB

For interest HRD + DM780 with Superbrowser decoding 10 signals CPU 3% RAM 1.88GB

My old Dell given to me by my son in law and in use up to last summer used to struggle to run HRD + DM780 and always ran at 85 - 99% CPU usage.
I have not tried that with JT65-HF, it was a Pentium 4 about 1.8GHz.

Now the crunch, I put this PC together last year and the spec is:-
CPU Intel i7 920 2.67GHz.
Memory 6GB.
3 x 2Tb Hitachi SATA Drives.
I can't remember the Video card but it's based on an ATI Radeon HD5700.
Operating system Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I hope at least the differences in running the different programs is interesting.

Laurie -- I just noticed I have the same issue ...
I tried starting jt-alert before DXK, and starting DXK before Jt-alert, in case the connection between the two was lost, but still isn't logging.

Otherwise, everything looks great! Yesterday was the first time i really got to sit and play w/the new version, and it's all that I expected from the reflector traffic .. the band activity monitoring and the lotw/eqsl labels are great features ...
I also did some testing of the WAS DXK log scanning, and seems solid! Saves lots of clicking & counting

locked Problems Reading B4log.mdb unless restart after each contact

Everything seems to be working fine with the nicely updated JT-Alert 1.5 except I am having one issue.

 

I am not using logging because I am using HRD V5 and I like to use the ALE window to capture all of the user information from QRZ or Buckmaster (Hamcall),  like Name, Address, coordinates, QTH etc.

 

When I log a contact using the “LOG QSO” button in JT65-HF it writes the call sign and band to the B4log.mdb file just fine. The next time the call sign that was previously logged is decoded is doesn’t display as worked B4. If I restart JT65-HF and JT-Alert it will then display that same call sign as worked B4.

 

I do have the Display worked B4 checked in the configuration and created the B4log.mdb file in the default directory and then imported all of my JT65 contacts from HRD. I tried using the log to ADI file but that didn’t work at all unless the callsign was in the ADI file (didn’t care what was in B4 mdb file).

 

Not sure why it is not refreshing or what should take place.

 

Any ideas?

I have the same problem. I've gone back to 1.4 and JT65-HF 1.07. I'm running Vista, so I wonder if it's a Vista problem.

Hi Laurie, appreciate you looking into this I know your a busy man. Love the new version and for now I'm just importing the JT65-hf adi file for now.
All I can say is thank goodness I do backup the database, as a network administrator I'm rather paranoid about backup. I maybe the only one who has their log on a Raid 5 server, backed up to tape, copied to a different local partition, as well as archived to flash drive. Told you I was paranoid.

Hi Laurie,

Ray W7RJC here. Well I've gotten rid of the multiple copies of JT65 v107
and have reloaded JT65 v107 and JT-Alert v1.5.0.
Now I have an error message poping up at radum.(atleast I cann't relate it to anything.) This is happening on receive.(haven;t tryed xmitt .. Yet)

This is the message ....

JT-Alert Error
Microsoft Jet Database engine cannot find the input table "Table_HRD_Contacts_V01"

error #80020009

It then asks me to make sure it exsists and the name is spelled correctly.
I did a search for "Table_HRD_Contacts_V01" and found nothing.

This error always shows up twice when it shows up.

Also the "&#92;" was already present when I went to put it in the contact window.
I have not tryed to log a file yet to see if the popups appear.

I have added additional troubleshooting popup warnings of critical conditions with JT-Alert and Logging and will be in 1.5.1

Are you getting a popup failure message when logging to DXKeeper? If not, it is most likely the recently identified missing backslash at the end of the JT65-HF Log path. Please see the message titled "## IMPORTANT ## - Bug in JT-Alert 1.5.0 logging."

If you have already confirmed that the Backslash is not the problem, I need to have a look at the session file JT-Alert creates. Under XP, have a look at the following path
C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Ham-Apps\JT-Alert\\sessions\
Under Win7 (I assume also Vista) have a look at this path
C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Ham-Apps\JT-Alert\\sessions\
substituting your Windows username and the Callsign used with JT-Alert. In that directory will be several files.

First, run JT-Alert and attempt to log a QSO so that the failure gets recorded in the session file, stop JT-Alert and then email me the sessions.txt file from the above directory.

### IMPORTANT ###

If QSOs are still not being logged and you are NOT getting either a "Success" or "Failure" popup window, this is most likely caused by the JT65-HF log path containing a space. This is a defect in JT-Alert 1.5.0, NOT JT65-HF.

You will need to have the jt65hf_log.adi file located in a directory path that does not contain a space.

The Fix.
  1. Stop JT-Alert.
  2. Start JT65-HF if not running.
  3. Click "Log QSO" button in JT65-HF.
  4. Use the browse button (right side of edit field) to browse to a NEW location (without a space in the path)
  5. Ensure that this new path has a Backslash "\" at the end of the path, type that character in manually.
  6. Click the "Cancel" button.
  7. Stop JT65-HF (this is important for the new change to be saved to the JT65-HF config file)
  8. Start JT65-HF
  9. Start JT-Alert
Logging should now work and a popup should appear after logging.

This fix will not be necessary once JT-Alert 1.5.1 is released (in 2 or 3 days time).

Hi Lautie'
In the process of getting the log file I realized that the address I put in JT-Alert was not complete I had left the last part off. Got that fixed and no more error messagees.
I have not tried to log a contact yet .. will let you know the result.
Will be gone tommorow so maybe in a day or two.
