I have my Audio Alerts set up just fine, and they sound off at the appropriate time following the order of precedence that I have employed.  There is just one hang-up with my configuration, however, and I'm at a loss as to its cure.

When sounding these alerts, and my own call has been detected as well, the alert for my own call sounds last, after all other alerts.

This is not a big issue on a band that is more or less dead or hardly in use, but on an extremely active band, with a large number of alerts being generated, I can easily miss someone responding to my "CQ" or calling me on a frequency different from my transmit frequency.   The length of time it takes for all alerts to be sounded can take up the 10-13 second interlude between transmissions.  As a result, if I am calling "CQ," the rig will automatically start sending the next "CQ" prior to the alert for my own call is sounded.   Embarrassing consequences result.

My Question:  Is there some "check the box" or other setting or method available to have the alert for "Own Call" take precedence over all other alerts - so that the "Own Call" alert (if enabled) is sounded first, before any other?

If not, having that ability might be a good "tweak" to add to JTAlert.

Thanks in advance,

Paul,

An Own Call alert has the highest priority (cannot be changed) and by default, the highest priority alert sounds are played last.

Visit the Settings window, "Alerts -> Alerts Priority" section and enable the "Play High Priority Sounds First" checkbox. Your own Call alert sound will then play first.

Have you checked the audio chain settings in Windows (I am assuming WinXP/7/8/10)?  Assuming that the Pwr slider in WSJT-X is at the top, and that your Kenwood side is set up correctly, I would suspect the Windows sound driver settings under Sounds in the Control Panel (Settings if Win10).

Also, since Vista, the OS now maintains individual sound settings on a per application basis. So JT65-HF can have different mixer settings from WSJT-X.

I use both WSJT-X as well as JT65-HF.  WSJT-X no longer will key my radio except on very low power (2-4 watts) JT65 still works fine, all settings are the same for sound card (Signalink USB), ports etc.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled WSJT-X and still cannot transmit more than qrp.  WSJT-X and JTAlertX are the programs of choice but I cant use them now.  I am using a Kenwood TS480.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Hi Anton,

This is the first report of this behaviour. I suspect it is a "one-off" and another 2.6.15 install will be successful.

The only difference between the 2.6.15 and 2.6.14 setups is the updated JTAlert files The Advanced Installer code that installs the JTAlert files hasn't changed for several versions.

Please try the 2.6.15 setup again.
Let me know the results.

Barry,

"localhost" will not work. See the JTAlert help file, "Tutorials -> WSJT-X UDP Server" topic. It includes setup information and info about identifying if JTAlert is using the UDP interface.

Please note, due to how WSJT-X is coded, there can be up to a 15 second delay before JTAlert correctly identifies that UDP is enabled and then switches to UDP mode. If the JTAlert "? -> About" title-bar menu doesn't indicate that that UDP mode is enabled, close the About window and wait 15 seconds before trying again. This retry is only necessary if the about box is examined shortly after first starting JTAlert.

Let me know how you get on with this.

Bobby/N4AU

Bobby,

Do you and W5NZ use the same ISP?

This is likely due to how HamSpots was originally coded. To avoid the use of cookies, it was coded to identify returning users (and logging them in automatically and using their previous settings) by use of an identifying "fingerprint". That fingerprint is based on your IP address and several Browser "HTTP_ACCEPT" values and the Browser "USER_AGENT". It is all very messy, several years old and long overdue for a rewrite. I don't recall why I tried to avoid the use of a cookie, it would have made the code much simpler.

Having said all that. It is unclear when I can get around to recoding this.

Perhaps try using a different browser to that used by W5NZ.

Let me know how you get on. If this is still an issue, I'll try and fast-track a HamSpots change.

The "TODO" is a place-holder to remind me to add instructions. Looks like that one got past me.

JTAlert doesn't maintain a list of "Needed Prefixes" like the States and DXCCs, which have discrete defined lists. A list of all possible prefixes would be very large and is not practical (how long is a piece of string?). Instead JTAlert maintains a list of no-longer needed prefixes. This way any encountered prefix will generate an alert unless it is the "No Longer Needed" list.

To maintain the list of "No Longer Needed" prefixes, you need to do a Log Scan. There is no option for manual settings for Prefixes.
