Ron,

Yep, I had the same problem. AVAST actually removed files and I had to restore 1.5.9 from an Acronis backup. This morning. Avast reported it as Win32:Rootkit-gen[Rtk].

Note: Backup regularly!!!

Until today's update from Avast I ran alert ver 1.5.9 without any problems, however, now the anti-virus program states that JT65-Alaert EXE contains a virus called WIN32:Rootkit-Gen which is real and somewhat dangerous.

I believe that it is a false positive and have sent the file to Avast for their feedback, however, unfortunately I can not run 1.5.9 and had to revert back to 1.5.6

Anyone else experience a virus alert from either Avast or another anti-virus program?

Love the program and now feel lost without 1.5.9 running hi hi.

Yes I have the same issue using Avast...

The only way for the moment is to desactivate temporary Avast's
permanent checking....

I hope they will erase from the Rootkit list.

Hi Ron,

This is a false positive.

Using an online scanner to scan JT-Alert.exe, ver 1.5.9, produced a 100% clean rating against 20 scanners.
Results can be viewed at this link...

If "No Activity" refers to newsgroup postings, there have been none. If your referring to JT65 activity by me, also, there has been none (on a radio free vacation).

Laurie,

Thank you for your development of JT-Alert; it has made my time using JT65-HF more productive.

I have a suggestion for a future version of this application. I would like to have the ability to have the decoded call signs in JT-Alert cleared when I clear the decodes in JT65-HF. I am not sure everyone would want this feature, so you might with to include a software switch to disable or enable it.

Keep-up the great work!

Hi Dave,

You are correct, in the past (pre 1.5.8) JT-Alert would not auto-start JT65-HF if it was already running. With 1.5.8 the dedicated option to auto-start/close JT65-HF was removed and replaced with the option to auto-start/close up to 5 different applications. With the 5 applications start/stop option the detection of JT65-HF already running was removed.

I have made some code changes to detect if JT65-HF is already running and prevent a second instance from starting. If JT65-HF is already running and JT-Alert is configured to auto-close JT65-HF it will now close JT65-HF even if it was running before JT-Alert start. Any one of the five auto-start/close applications can be used for JT65-HF.

Replacement JT-Alert.exe to test is available here...
http://ham-apps.com/dnl/Testing/N0RQ/JT-Alert.exe

Ensure JT-Alert is not running and replace the existing JT-Alert.exe file with this new file.

Let me know how this works for you.

I don't know if previous versions did this, but 1.5.9 does (in WinXP). If I had JT65-HF running, and then start JT-Alert, it will start a second instance of JT65-HF. (I have it configured to start JT65-HF.) I thought that in the past, it would recognize that JT65-HF is already running instead of starting a new one, but I could easily be wrong about that.

I don't know what the consequences are of running two instances of JT65-HF, but if a guy isn't doing it on purpose, I don't imagine it helps anything. Perhaps the biggest issue would be slower decodes.

Laurie, VK3AMA <groups03@...>

Hi Dave,

I can confirm that under Wine (not Windows) 1.5.9 does indeed take much longer to load than 1.5.8.

One of the internal changes to JT-Alert with 1.5.9 was the order in which certain dll files are loaded, specifically, the dll for sqlite support. This dll load was moved to the start of the JT-Alert code (before the GUI is painted to the screen) and appears to be the cause of the observed delay.

I just ran some tests with the sqlite dll load moved to after the GUI painting, while the delay in loading sqlite is still there, it is not apparent since the GUi is now showing. I will email you direct a link to a replacement executable file to test.

Regarding you observation that JT-Alert has typically been slow to load. I believe this is due to the use of Wine. Under Windows and Wine, whenever windows api functions get run, they will often require the loading of specific dll files into memory (eg. user32, kernal32, etc). Once those dlls are loaded, any later function calls are very fast to run as the dll is already in memory. Windows will typically have most of these standard dlls already loaded into memory as the result of having Windows running and other windows programs generating function calls that load the dlls before JT-Alert is even started, so there are none of these dll loading from disk to memory delays when running JT-Alert. However under Wine, most of these dlls are not pre-loaded and only get loaded when JT-ALert makes a specific function call. I believe this is the cause of the slow JT-Alert startup.
