Hi Bobby,

Thanks for the report.
The JT-Alert code records the process ID of any auto-started program and uses that ID when attempting to shutdown that program (avoiding the more traditional method of using Window titles to close a program which fail when the titles change).

I will investigate.

Hi Tom,

There is a recently discovered bug in 1.5.8  when it is a first time install or upgrade from a pre 1.5.x version.

The fix...

  1. Uninstall 1.5.8 (your settings are safe)
  2. Install 1.5.2 (download from here http://ham-apps.com/dnl/JT-Alert/JT-Alert_1.5.2_Setup.exe )
  3. Install 1.5.8 (don't uninstall 1.5.2)
Let me know if this solves (or not) your problem.

HI David,

Don't know if Wine updates are cause, I don't keep track of what is happening in that area.

Is the Band Activity totally missing or is it visible and just not updating? The code to display the activity is the same code to display the menus, are the menus visible?

Also use the "Contact Support" option to send me your sessions and config files for review.

If the menus are also missing (the JT-Alert title is probably centred in the title bar rather than to the left), that would suggest that there is a Wine configuration problem. Run the Wine Config and under the "Graphics" tab uncheck the "Allow the window manager to decorate the windows" option.

Hi Dell,

Every logging method, except for the JT-Alert B4 file will produce a popup after logging, displaying a success or failure message. Sounds like it wasn't actually logging to the ADIF.

Next time you have an issue, use the "Contact Support" menu option and send me your config & session files. I will quickly be able to tell what is happening.

It is on my todo list to improve the logging instructions and get a help file completed.

Hi Dell,

All of the logging methods are used for B4 checking. There is no need to enable the JT-ALert B4 option. If you do, the ADIF option will get disabled. Only one logging method can be active at any time. Choose the ADIF method (and enable) and the file will be updated. To know which method is currently enabled look at the JT-Alert titlebar. If you have the config window open, the logging method is also displayed in that titlebar as well as the method being shown in bold in the left-hand side treeview.

Within it there is a Standard ADIF File section and a JT Alert B4 Worked section. Since AC Log is not supported, the Standard ADIF File section suggests I enable and use it. Fair enough, but how does this file get updated once created? In the Worked B4 section there a checkbox that simply enables or disables its logging. Now I am guessing that once enabled,  this log (mdb file) gets it updates from whatever logging is selected (Standard ADIF File, DX Keeper, HRD, etc.)?  If that is the case, it comes back to my question of how does the Standard ADIF file get updated? Is  it a file I create and maintain separate from JT-Alert?

Hi Roger,

Thanks for letting us know.

You are the 3rd report of this when upgrading from a pre 1.5.x version of JT-Alert to 1.5.8. I think that the settings migration code, from old (pre 1.5.x) registry to new 1.5.x file based settings storage may be the key to what is happening.

Future versions of JT-Alert will no longer attempt to migrate old settings.

Hi Dell,

The problem, I can't reproduce here. But I do know the cause of the error. Something is trying to run in JT-Alert, before all its internal variables have been declared, and referencing one of those undeclared variables throws the error.

I have made some changes in the internal structure of the JT-Alert code to avoid this in future versions.

Regarding the Local AppData directory structure having more files with 1.5.7  than with 1.5.8 that is due to 1.5.8 crashing. JT-Alert when started creates some folders and files if not present (say after a manual folder deletion and a new install). With 1.5.8 crashing that code is not being run and creating the additional files/folders.

Error: Variable used without being declared.

I originally installed 1.58 over 1.57...no errors and it was running. Then I did an uninstall of 1.58 and manually deleted folder and its subfolders
C:\Users\Dell\AppData\Local\Ham-Apps

I then did aninstall of 1.58 and wham-mo, the dreaded error when I started it.

Current fix:
Uninstall 1.58 and manually delete aforementioned folder (I'm not sure this deletion is necessary)
Install version 1.57
Run 1.57 at least once
Install version 1.58

All works again.

It isn't clear to me what installing and running 1.57 prior to the install of 1.58 does to fix the problem,. It does populate the C:\Users\Dell\AppData\Local\Ham-Apps folder structure with more files than is apparent with a fresh install of 1.58, but that may be due to 1.58 failing before it fully populates this folder structure.

Let me know if I can be of future assistance.
