Since your title bar shows "???m", the most likely issue is that
UDP communication is not working between JTDX and JTAlert.

1) Did you start JTAlert with the right shortcut?

2) Are either JTDX or JTAlert running with elevated permissions
("run as administrator")? If so, *DO NOT* run as administrator.

3) See "Help -> WSJTX UDP Setup" in JTAlert and follow those
instructions.

4) Are any other programs running that use UDP connections -
logging software, etc.?

I am running Ver. 2.50.4 and using Standard ADIF File for logging. Recently the Call Sign window clears once I click the WSJT-X Confirm QSO window. This happens whether or not I have the JTAlert logging confirmation turned on.

Have I click something or is this the way it is supposed to run?

I agree,
JTAlert is a perfect tool for digital communication when paired with WSJT-X correctly.
There are many reasons why things can go wrong if the user does not set it up correctly by following the instructions. I have had the occasional issue but this is down to MY error and not the software which is a damn sight more stable than many software offerings.

Perhaps digital is too complicated for the OP, he is still on AOL which I thought was only viable on steam powered computers these days.

Deni,

I'm not sure why the title bar isn't showing which band you're on but it looks like you have some filter/filters enabled which may be blocking any decodes showing in the Callsign window. Click Alerts from the menu and then check the Filters menu to see what filters you have enabled.

as has been said here so many times, even
just recently (did you read any of the mail
archive here to see if your problems were
discussed?) ... a message like yours is like
you went on the radio and said
"I'm lost somewhere west of the Rocky Mtns. ...
can you please help me get home?"

In other words, you told us things are not
working ... "doctor, I don't feel well .. what's
wrong?" what would your doctor do?

You told us NOTHING about symptoms or
what's not working. Take a deep breath, sit
back, and write another email with DETAILS
and lots of folks here will try to help.

Based on the original author’s name in the email (AOL/COMPUSERV) I take it he is elderly and not well versed in computers. Maybe digital modes are not his best choice of operation then.

JTAlert works fine here and Laurie has done fantastic work refining the program over the years.

If people would first try to read the manual and FAQ, them post to the list if they still have an issue after trying to solve it themselves, they could be enjoying the program.

You can’t please everyone.

LOL, it is precisely "prime time" when it works the best!  When I have 40-60 decodes per 15 second epoch, JTAlert is the ONLY thing that can keep it all straight!

I get it- that was a message written out of frustration- I've written them myself (mostly to Microsoft).  But it is hardly indicative of the JTAlert community's experience with this software.  Of course there are small bugs- no software is perfect.  But Laurie and the testing team have been great addressing them and been very responsive to the community when they get the proper information regarding a problem.

tnx for your kind words and the acknowledgement that you received the magazine.

As version 2 of JTAlert offers remarkable innovations it was my pleasure to write an update to the article that described the program in November 2020. The update was in the June 2021 edition.

Gerald, I too would like to thank you for your service to our country.  Men and women who have served are appreciated much more than they know.

I don't understand your statement.  It sounds like it is written out of frustration.  How long have you been using JTAlert?  No program is perfect.  I have used JTAlert on a daily basis for over 4 years now, and have never had any serious problems.  What few problems I've had, Laurie has addressed quickly and efficiently.  I have FAR more trouble with Windows than any program I use running under it.  And I paid a HE77 of a lot more for Windows!  I wish you would post some of the issues you are having.  I'm betting between Laurie and the users on this forum, your problems can be solved in very short order.  99% of the problems I've had with JTAlert, or WSJT-X for that matter, have been resolved with a simple restart of Windows.  Give Laurie and the group a chance to help you solve the issues you are having.  It's a great program, one I could not get by without.  WSJT-X alone is a pain to use and keep track of what is going on.

locked Re: JTAlert useful to reply to CQ but not alerts

neil_zampella

Yes, that's understood - TX enable does not get set and WSJT-X does not answer as he was not calling CQ.  However, shouldn't the WSJT-X DX Call and receive frequency still shift to the station when selected?  When I select it nothing happens.  I had the alert for new DXCC set which is why the alert triggered -  I have never worked that country.

No ... again, there is nothing in the WSJT-X UDP interface that does that.    You can enter the callsign in the WSJT-X DX Call box and start to call them.

I also see a similar issue, when someone calls me when I didn't call  CQ.  I see an alert due to the call to me, however  I can't select the station in JTAlert to set receive freq and DX Call field. Seems to be same scenario - alert that is not calling CQ.  Please let me know if this is working as expected.

If you are getting called, and you don't have Call 1st and AUTOSEQ checked, you have to select them in WSJT-X and try to work manually.   Again, there is no UDP interface that will do that.for you.   The controlling program is WSJT-X, not JTAlert.

I just upgraded to JT Alert 2.50.4 with WSJT-X v 2.4. I get no call sign window. F3 does not work, nor does the drop-down. Call sign history comes up but it does not reflect anything, drawing a blank. Also, no longer does my wsjt-x log upload to DXKeeper. I restarted the computer and that solved nothing. Previous to this upgrade I had a version of JT Alert older than 2.50.3 and all was working FB.

Laurie Cowcher, VK3AMA, released JT-Alert 2.1.4, the first version of his software with full FT4 support.  JTAlert is a utility that, in conjunction with the WSJT-X and JTDX programs, displays additional information about stations in the weak signal modes JT65, JT9, FT8 and FT4.  By comparison with the local logbook, it is recognizable by color highlighting which stations have already been worked or are still missing.  Further functions include the connection of external logbook programs, a chat option and an overall overview of how many stations are currently active in weak signal modes.

The new version eliminates support for MixW, JT65-HF and JT65-HF-HB9HQX.

Users of these programs should not update JT-Alert and should continue to use version 2.1.3. The change is permanent and therefore also affects the version 2.1.4.1released today, which serves to fix the bug. Updates are made without uninstalling an existing version.
