Laurie, thanks that seems to have resolved that problem. Unfortunately, now the alert database does not update when I scan the log and rebuild.

Correction. During the install of jt alerts it says .net not found.

I installed it from there. It says during install that .net is not found even though it is installed.

Interesting you mention Blat. I recently went looking for an alternative
as it has some serious shortcomings working in modern Email environments
requiring SSL/TLS to access SMTP servers. I found CMail which enabled my
emails to TLS enabled email accounts to work, which was not possible
with Blat. I have produced an update sample batch file utilizing CMail
for the next JTAlert release. It is included below.

I never said it was a logging problem. The problem is very likely caused by accessing the log at the end of a decode period when the worked B4 checks are performed. Crashing at the end of a period as decodes are first starting to be processed is very likely due to problems accessing the log.

If your using an MSAccess type log in HRD, simply create a new one for testing. If the JTAlert crash stops after creating a new log then make that log the active log in HRDLogbook.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit v20H2 with .NET Framework v5.0.8 installed on a laptop. I have tested this in both WSJT-X v2.4.0 and v2.5.0-rc3 using multicast address 239.255.0.1 and port 2237. I have all the configuration options set to match the manual. I uninstalled WSJT-X and JTAlert and then deleted all the configuration data. I then installed both program and still had the same issue. I then went to another computer that has never had either program installed. After installing the same versions, JTAlert worked with out issue.

So far on my laptop, I have tried with both the firewall on and off. I have disabled all the anti virus and turned off everything in Windows Defender, still didn't solve the issue. I have tried on both the multicast and 127.0.0.1, same result. It seems that data is going to JTAlert but nothing is coming back from JTAlert to WSJT-X. If I revert back to the previous version I was using, which was 2.16.17, everything works correctly.

I took this a step further and Wiresharked the loopback interface. I can see the packets going out on the multicast address but I never see any packets generated when I click a callsign in the Callsigns Display in JTAlert. I do have WSJT-X UDP multicast on loopback enabled and have no other programs running that would access the multicast data. I also enabled debugging in JTAlert and found a debug file that states that it did recognize that the callsign was clicked.

At this point I am stumped. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I can provide screenshots if it helps.
_

WSJT-X not responding to JTAlert Callsign click events is a common problem caused by an incomplete WSJT-X UDP Server settings. Specifically, not having the "Accept UDP requests" enabled. Do you have that enabled on the affected WSJT-X installations?

The top line of that popup window gives the clue. "incorrect shortcut target parameter" In your case, the shortcut lacks the parameter. All JTAlert created shortcuts have the necessary parameter. Is this a shortcut you created yourself? Your shortcut would be lacking the "/jtdx" parameter. Have a look at the JTAlert installer created JTDX shortcut under the "HamApps JTAlert" Windows start-menu group.

Dagnammit, I was sure that was the cause.

Question: What happens when you restart JTAlert, does the sound delay still occur for the very first batch of decodes after the restart?
Question: Are the JTAlert callsigns clearing at the end of a period or are they hanging around resulting in duplicate callsign displays?
Question: Does using the "Sound -> Test Sound Output" menu produce the same delay?

I suspect a problem with your HRD Log or its associated ODBC DSN. Are you using an MSAccess HRD log?

If you temporarily switch to an alternate log in JTAlert, say ADIF, it doesn't need to contain data, does JTAlert still produce the crash when it gets a batch of decodes to process? If it doesn't crash that suggests an issue with the HRD Log.

A number of HRD 6 users have experienced various problems. The exact cause is unknown, but it is related to using an MSAccess log in HRD. The usual fix is to perform an export of your current log, create a new Log in HRD and import the previous export, then switch JTAlert to using that new Log. In a very small number of cases, creating a new HRD MSAccess log didn't correct the behavior, but upgrading to using a MariaDB log did. HRD themselves recommend using MariaDB rather than MSAccess type logs.
