Both my PCs with different hardware and sound devices were broken after the Windows update. Neither has Dolby 5.1 audio. The defect was caused by the 5.0.7 desktop runtime that was installed as part of the updates (here at least). Reverting to the 5.0.6 runtime restored JTAlert functionality.

Laurie,

I encountered this bug also, and going back to 5.0.6 did the trick. I have my Windows updates paused until July 14. Hopefully, Microsoft will have this fixed by then.

Next time you restart or Windows does an automatic update check,
you will have 5.0.7. I thought I had dodged the the bullet on
a manual update only to be struck the net morning buy the automatic security updates.

You are looking at directory names which is not suitable for determining what .NET runtimes are installed. Microsoft often names their directories based on the code names/numbers they use within their organization, not the public name/version of the software.

To know what versions are installed you can use control panel to get a full listing. Alternatively, and preferred, is to execute "dotnet --info" in a command prompt window.

Thanks Laurie for the explanation(s).  I am not sure of duplicates, and will need to also watch the JTAlert callsign count (over and above the 3X7 display parameter) as further decodes progress from WSJT-X to help clarify what I am seeing.  When this occurs, I do not recall any clearing of the callsign window until after a number of decode cycles.  Thank you.  C

I just switched from WL to N1MM because of its ability to interface to WSJT-X.

I guess I’m not most contesters because I had been using WL for all my log keeping for the past 20(?) years. I just like using the same user interface for all my operating since it’s a rare event when I actually sit in front of a radio. Making a robust remote operation is job 1 so by using the same software, I’m constantly testing that system.

Correction, I did have the problem. It did not appear on the first
restart after a manual update as Window, for some reason, chose to
do the update in two steps. The .NET update (security fixes) were
in the second tranche of the updates.

The solution was to uninstall the .NET Runtime, restart and manually
download/install .NET 5.0.6 (I was at .NET 5.0.2 prior to the Windows
Update).

Disappearing and reappearing (after a few seconds) Callsigns window is due to the controlling process, JTAlertV2.Manager.exe, closing and being restarted. The Manager was erroring due to the recent MS update. The Manager also controls the audio playback. Uninstall the .NET 5.0.7 desktop runtime and install the previous version, 5.0.7.

Well, not just an FYI since I thought it might be nice if you confirmed it to make sure it wasn't just me and then to let people know of the issue so they don't install the update.  I'm about to try to back it out now.

Joe

update: Just tried to back out the change.  It looked like it backed it out but didn't so I guess it can't be removed.  I would advise all to NOT install this update until Microsoft fixes this screw up.
