I deleted a lot of them here also. The oldest dated file was from August 2020, so I guess something happened around that time that broke the automatic file deletions.

I had some 40 files accumulated in the two weeks since I've been
back on the air (finally got an antenna up). Deleted all except
config.sqlite and the last three days of dated back-ups.

Good day….

Here’s a screen shot of the API settings.  Only check the first check box, not the bottom one.

Also, the logging program MUST be running before you start JTAlert else you will get an error, which makes sense because there will be no server to connect to. J

I use the auto-start feature in JTAlert and it starts the log, then WSJT and then JTAlert.  Very simple.

Keith, have you set the API under Settings of the N3FJP logging software? Open the logging program, select Settings, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see the API.

Keith,

In JTAlert, go to Help - Open Help File. In the help file, click on Settings - Logging - ACLog.

Laurie:

I have sent the session files.  This issue is demonstrable at the moment in my station.  I check the ignore before box, set today's date, and even though I have made no QSOs since 2/28/21, I have stations marked in WSJTX as seen before.

I am sorry if I offended anyone by asking the question in the forum rather than immediately filing a support contact.  It has been my observation and experience that many issues get resolved by someone else in the group who has a quick answer.  What else is the forum for?  And to restate the obvious, of course I am interested in a solution.  Why else would I have posted?

As I have told you previously, I have relied on JTAlert since I set up my station a couple of years ago.  And I am pretty sure that I have used the Ignore B4 feature in past contests.  So something has changed here.

Joe,

The problem is not the removal of functionality, it is that critical status changes are not being conveyed via the UDP status message. Specifically, when ever the DXCall is changed (your QSO partner) and when there is a band change, the Status message is never generated. There is no way to know who your working or on what band when these change. The UDP status message coming from MSHV does contain this data, but it is never sent. The Status message does get generated when there is a Mode change, at which time the current DXall and Band/Frequency can be determined. Why reporting Mode changes but not Band or DXCall changes is more important is unclear to me. The UDP overhead is minor compared to the high volume decode messages.

These are show-stopper failures not just for JTAlert but any 3rd party program that wants to integrate with MSHV. Knowing who your working (to facilitate log lookups) or what band your on (to facilitate band specific alerting of wanted entities) are critical bits of information.

When this lack of Status message generation on critical status changes was pointed out to the MSHV author, his response was "this is MSHV not WSJT-X". I gave up trying to convince him this was a real problem after that exchange.

Sorry Dave

It will not work - Laurie has been in touch with Christo (Author of MSHV) pointing out areas needing tidied up but he has refused to make changes. He will happily support new modes developed by the wsjtx team at drop of a hat but will not make changes to allow udp messages to work.

Post over in the MSHV forum - MSHV@groups.io - perhaps if enough people comment it may appear.

I only use MSHV as it support modes WSJT-X has dropped.

Do you even want to fix the installation?   Have you used the 'CONTACT SUPPORT' link under the HELP menu so that Laurie can see exactly what is happening?

Why accept something that is easily fixed, as I have been using DXKeeper for years with JT-Alert and have always seen the correct B4 list, even when using 'ignore B4 status date'. in contests.

OK then.  I guess witt the vagaries of software, I accept that I have an installation that DOESNT WORK.  But like I said, there are workarounds.

  • I log with both as once HRD fixes the bug, I plan to use JTAlert for  logging and disable it in WSJT-X as that shows as deprecated. As stated earlier, I just clean up with the "Refresh"  button.

Ron,

There is no need to wait for HRD to fix their badly broken ADIF parser. The easy fix is to set JTAlert to use HRD logging and leave the WSJT-X secondary server and the JTAlert Last QSO function turned off.

By having JTAlert perform the HRD logging, which happens via the HRDLogbook TCP interface (no direct writing to the log, it is handled by HRD), is that you instantly gain accurate B4 checking against you log and one-click updating of the JTAlert Alert database for the different Alert types, rather than having to manually adjust the Alert settings which is tedious and error (human) prone.

No I don't agree. DXKeeper is my primary logger used with JTAlert. Of all the supported loggers, DXKeeper gets the most attention in terms of testing and features. B4 checking is not broken in my tests.

The B4 checks are done against DXKeeper. In another message you asked does JTAlert uses the WSJTX log file for dupe checking. The answer is NO. JTAlert never ever goes anywhere near the WSJT-X log.

What is not working exactly?

Use the "Help" -> "Contact Support" menu, on the main JTAlert window, to send me your JTAlert files for analysis. I may have to follow up with a request to see your DXKeeper log file.
