Thanks Frank (KF6E). It helped a little! As you can see by the 2 snips that it is still not right. I just replaced my Graphics card but no joy! Next I will upgrade to Windows 10 and just maybe that will straighten it out.

No, neither TCP nor Secondary UDP are checked in JTDX settings.

With logging turned of on JTAlert, the double logging stopped so I have something set wrong in JTAlert.
Just trying to figure out what.

One went to eQSL like it was supposed to and the other did not have a contact date plus some of the info was missing. I deleted that one and went back to settings.

Under the mail "Logging" menu (log 1.jpg), I found log full name and log full QTH boxes checked so I unchecked them. I opened the "Last Log API" menu (log 3.jpg) and have found the box checked for "enable transmisssion of last QSO". I did not check that box so I'm wondering now if that is what is causing the double logging.

Going back and deleting the incomplete log entries is only an inconvenience and no great matter, really, but it just bugs me to death that something is not working right and I want, not perfection, but at least correctly working software. JTAlert has ALWAYS worked correctly for me and without it, I probably would be on JTDX a LOT less.

Fire away folks, I'm ready to listen to anything right now.

Fred,

do you have the option "Settings->Reporting->Secondary UDP Server (deprecated)->Enable logged contact ADIF broadcast" checked. If you do then uncheck that option.

Stephen,

I actually use Cylance anti virus instead of Defender. But I did turn off all anti virus protection and the problem was the same. I backed up to version 2.16.7 and the decodes window works like it always has. Very smooth, no delay, and populates every time.

With the Dual JTAlert and WSJT-x running, "should" I see the decoded stations appear in the #2 JTAlert ?
I looked briefly thru past posts to forum and didn't find my answer.

I am now only seeing Decodes Callsign in instance #1

edit:::
Like Jerry KE7DJD did, I made several back-n-forth changes ...messing with one instance of both sets running, individually pairs ...changing the udp port(s), matching in each respective pairs ...
and "somehow" now JTAlert, in both pairs, reports decoded call-signs from the respective WSJTx instance

Yikes! will this work after a sys-reboot(?) hi hi

locked Re: Decodes window not always populating

Well, it looks like the "friendly name change" is only good until you reboot.  Then it reverts back to its system name.  Thus it doesn't really help much.  I'll just have to remember to change to the correct sound output in JTAlert when I start it up if I've rebooted.

2.16.8 decodes window works fine for me.  Sometimes I get a few seconds start-up delay but other than that it seems fine.

locked Re: JTAlert updates will blow away directories or files underneath the JTAlert node, including possibly your logfile

bob

Now that i have returned from a great visit on Fathers Day, I can now test my theory the the JTAlert updates will blow away your logfiles (and any other custom files/folders you have in the JTA installation directory) upon a software update.

in my case i have my JTA software installed in
D:\HamApps\JTAlert
but your JTA install path can be anywhere you selected during the installation or the default windows path for appls without custom installation paths.

fortunately, another update was made available by Laurie since i was away which provided a perfect opportunity to test with.

the upgrade moved me from v2.16.7 to v2.16.8

my adif logfile path/file as setup in JTA->Settings->Logging->Standard ADIF file is
D:\HamApps\JTAlert\LogFile-rpb\log.adi

my logfiles and directory have been getting deleted whenver i ran the lst couple of installs.

i believe the JTA installer blindly deletes the JTAlert directory tree (rather than only muck with files it installed)and then lays in the new update files (since all persistent config is in APPDATA).

this time, the first thing i did was copy/save off my JTA logs (using ADIF logging) somewhere far away from the JTA install path.  Furthermore, i placed a couple of dummy files and a folder with a dummy file in the JTA install directory just before running the update.

i then ran the update - and sure enough POOF !!!   Not only was my adif logfile deleted, but so too the add'l test files i dropped in the JTA install directory were deleted after running the JTA installer.

SO... BEWARE OUT THERE if you happen to choose an alternate path than the install default, and you then choose (for organizational reasons) to place the adif logfile in it, MAKE SURE you copy your files out BEFORE running the installer or they will ALL be gone when the update is completed.
-OR-
DO NOT put your logfiles in the JTA install directory in the first place.

while this is not the best practice for an install program (microsoft's documented recommendations) but can be worked around if its well known that it behaves this way as one can simply copy the files first to prevent them from being deleted, and replace them afterwards.

I'm very sure that the data files are kept under the USER directory tree under the AppData directory.   So no matter if yu install in a separate directory, either version will use the same data files.

locked Manually adding Grid Squares worked B4?

wo4o RiC

I'm relatively new to utilizing WSJT-X and JTAlert and have been searching the archives for instructions on how Grid Squares worked B4 and not needed can be manually added to the JT-Alert window to block Alerts for those specific Grid Squares.

My mouse cursor can enter the window but I'm unable to manually add specific Grid Squares for which I don't want Alerts to be triggered.

I understand by scanning a log that JTAlert is capable of automagically adding Grid Squares worked B4 to block such Alerts, but I've been searching for a way to perform the task manually (and have yet to discover the way ... if there is one).

There's a will, but I've failed to figure out a way ...

Your #3 instance seems to be displaying
in Hebrew, rather than English ...  the
location of the stop [x] and the music icon
are reversed; part of the title is in Hebrew
ONLY on that instance.  And the [x] stop
box in left corner is red, where the other
three are not ...

Maybe that will point you in the right direction.

I am using Flex 6600 radio, SmartSDR v3.1.12 and 4 instances of WSJT-X v2.2.1 and JTAlert v2.16.8. Every few hours one of the instances of JTAlert does fail in a meaner you can see in the attached photo such that I have to restart it. This is a long time issue on which I did complain in the past. Your help is welcome.

Bill,

I'm only guessing, but it looks like Windows is not tiling correctly. Try hitting Windows key + D twice, and see if that fixes it. If it doesn't, it's something else in Windows, but I have no idea what.

I downloaded 2.16.8 this morning into my Win 7 Pro machine.  Been running 2.16.7 without incident except for no decodes in the window, none.  Been using the decodes window.   When i downloaded it i set a separate directory for just this edition, in other words i didn't overwrite 2.16.7 if that is indeed what happens. In 2.16.8  my JTAlert does not display any decodes.  I thought maybe there was a difference in the log location but both LOG4OM V2 and JT alert are the same.  I have not made any QSO's as yet with it as yet so i'm not sure if something with the new version maybe is not set right or?  It's been awhile since the decode window had any displays so i'm not sure what version i was running at the time.  I know with 2.16.7 when i made a QSo JTAlert would show the current QSO information and would log correctly.  My question is, why doesn't JTAlert show current cycle decodes,?  Im not talking about the decode window under "View".

Clear as mud?

Not sure if this is related to your specific issue, but I run Windows 10 with latest 2004 update and have always had all the JTAlert Folders and files listed in windows Defender to exclude. However, JTAlert still was not running decodes.

I had to go into Defender and turn OFF the following to get JTAlert working again:

Virus & threat Protection
   - Check Apps & Files - OFF
   - Smart Screen for Microsoft Edge - OFF
   - SmartScreen for Microsoft Store Apps - OFF

Ransomware Protection
  - Controlled Folder Access - OFF

Good afternoon Laurie, I have followed your instructions and yes, the file "JTAlertV2.Manager.exe", if it appears running in Task Management (details tab). I run "finish task" and it gets back to running again.
I check again in "About" and it still doesn't show UDP port.
Although I have "JTAlert.exe" excluded in McAfee, I deactivated the antivirus and repeated the process, with a negative result.

I appreciate any help / idea you can give me
Thanks for your work Laurie.

Jesus,

With no "JTAlertV2.Manager" UDP port listed in the status shown by the main JTAlert Help->About window, then very likely either
JTAlertV2.Manager is not running or the communications back to JTAlert, exe with the current port number was never received or blocked. With no port listed then none of the modules of the Manager will ever receive an instruction from the JTAlert.exe process and that includes playing audio.

Check Windows Task Manager (details tab) and check that
JTAlertV2.Manager.exe is running. If it isn't that is the problem.  It should always be running and if the process is killed JTAlert automatically restarts it, so you should never see it not running. If JTAlertV2.Manager.exe never shows in Task Manager the likely cause is your PC protection software interring.

If Task Manager does show that
JTAlertV2.Manager.exe is running, try a right-click on JTAlertV2.Manager.exe and use the "End Task" menu. You should observe that JTAlertV2.Manager.exe automatically reappears. Then go back and reopen the JTAlert Help->About and check is a port now listed? If no port listed after killing JTAlertV2.Manager.exe that suggests that something is blocking the  the communications between the Manager and JTAlert, very likely your PC protection software.
