As Laurie said previously:

To make your life easier, you can perform Sound Output device changes and play tests from the main JTAlert window without having to open the Settings window. Via the "Sound" menu.

Just click on Test Sound Output

Thanks for the info Laurie.

I finally got things to work. I opened each instance separately and made the identical changes to both. At least I guess that is what fixed things? I fiddled with so many other things that in the end I got lost. Nevertheless the end result was positive.

Now if it were possible to get one instance to use a male voice and the other a female voice like is possible with two computers……. That makes is easy to tell from the voice alert which of the two bands has the activity. Perhaps that capability will be in V3?

There are multiple instance limitations, especially involving access to

the Settings window, documented in the Help File, see the "Multiple

Instances" topic.

If you change settings in instance #1, instance #2 will not see those

changes due to each instance using a copy of the config file. It is not

possible within JTAlertV2 for multiple instances to have real-time

access to a single config file and automatically detect and apply

changes. That comes with JTAlertV3.

If you change the sound device in instance #1, instance #2 will be

unaware of that change, you will need to make the same change via the

Sound menus which avoids the need to open the Settings window (which is

not possible from instance #2).

I just now tested 4 JTAlert instances and each correctly played the Test

Sound.

From my original post..

The only way to get JTAlertV2.manager to show as a volume slider in Mixer is to have JTAlert play a sound.

So how do you get it to do that?

From my original post..
  • Application volume sliders appearing in the Sound Mixer are controlled by Windows, JTAlert has no control over that.

  • Application volume sliders in the Mixer will only become visible once Windows has detected a sound-play type event from the application.

The only way to get JTAlertV2.manager to show as a volume slider in Mixer is to have JTAlert play a sound. If Windows does not detect that Sound Play event because something is blocking it or it is not running then the Manager will not show in Mixer.

The JTAlertV2.manager executable is a console application without a Windows form and is not designed to be run manually. It is coded to expect a specific number of command-line parameters from JTAlert and to run as a background process without an output window.

A single left click on a Callsign will send that decode data of that Callsign back to WSJT-X for it to populate the DXCall field and other setup in preparation for a QSO. Please note that WSJT-X will not automatically initiate a QSO if the decode was not a CQ.

If you don't want to see B4 stations in JTAlert, simple, enable the "Do not show Worked Before..." Alerts Filter.

It you want all past worked stations to not show as B4's (until you have worked them) during the contest you can either start with an empty log or use your existing log and set the Worked B4 "Ignore B4 status before this date" option and set the date to the start date of the Contest.

You don’t need to go into setting - use ToolBar - Sound -> Test Sound Output

  • If "JTAlertV2.Manager" repeatedly doesn't show in the Mixer for other audio devices then the likely causes are your PC protection software interfering and blocking the UDP control message sent from JTAlert to the Manager process, the "JTAlertV2.Manager" itself is not running or the Audio module of the Manager is not initialized. You can check the status of all Manager modules via the JTAlert "Help -> About" menu.

If you still can't resolve use the "Help" (or "? ") -> "Contact Support" menu, on the main JTAlert window, to send me your JTAlert files for analysis.

Sorry, that wont happen until JTAlertV3. With JTAlertV2 (the current series) all control placement in the main window is hard-code, it is a major undertaking to increase width and height in order to gain additional callsign display slots.

With the future JTAlertV3 there are no hard-code control placements in any of the windows. Every window can be resized at will and the layout with adjust accordingly. With the Callsigns display specifically, additional callsign display slots are automatically added as the window is resized horizontally, vertically, made full-screen, it doesn't matter.

I ran into the same problem after updating to the latest release of Windows 10 64 bit (2004). My generic cheapo external USB audio stick would not get recognized by Windows.  I ordered a similar USB device from Amazon and it worked just fine on Windows 10 2004.  The original external USB audio stick worked fine in an another Windows 10 machine.

I suspect some driver issue with Windows 10 64 bit... a re-occurring theme in the Windows world ...

Laurie -- could we get a last-ditch QRZ or HamQTH query before a User Alert is sent out to ensure the callsign is valid in QRZ if those options are checked?
Seems reasonable to put a check  in there IMHO.

Seems the false decodes in WSJT-X can cause improper callsigns to pass through.

And DXPeditions are using ClubLog so maybe add ClubLog queries too -- but just for the User Alert?

So if none of the enabled services returns as valid callsign the alert is just dropped.

Hi Laurie,

hi All,

Since a few days I have also had problems with the audio alerts via JTAlert. Possibly after a Windows 10 64 bit update.

According to my observations, this seems to be a problem of Windows 10 and not of JTAlert, because I haven't had any audio output outside of JTAlert since that time.

I remembered many weeks ago someone suggested a solution. I have implemented this.

What have I done?

I installed a cheap USB sound stick (less than 10 US $) and declared this stick as the default device in the sound mixer.  The stick is not used operational.

After that I get audio alerts from JTAlert again via my Realtek High Definition Audio device.

Maybe other JTAlert users can solve the sound problem in this or a similar way.
