This is interesting. Yesterday (June 9 in the USA) I downloaded and installed 2.16.7 with no problems from Norton. Today, as a test, I downloaded the same setup file, and Norton trapped it as a virus. There have been several updates from Norton since I installed it. It was listed as a generic as Trojan.GEN.MBT. I sent it to Norton, so we'll see what happens. Since I was able to install it yesterday, and have excluded the JTalert folders from Norton, it hasn't caused me any further problems.

2.16.7
I can just put his callsign in WSJT-X and it shows up like this.

Mike W9MDB

The problem is the "/4" AH6P is using.

The JTAlert cty.dat file parsing is returning KH4 which is Midway, I don't know if that is correct or not

If he had signed for the other US cq zones he comes up as..
    Zone 3: AH6P/3 -> KH3 Johnston Island
    Zone 5: AH6P/5 -> KH5 Palmyra & Jarvis Islands

Using DXLab DXView as my gold standard it returns the same results except for no DXCC for AH6P/4

I am not familiar with the US licensing requirements, but is it normal to indicate the operating zone in such a way? I don't recall ever seeing this before, signing using the operating Zone number as a portable suffix.

de Laurie VK3AMA

Hi Laurie,

I believe it is not zone but call area. Once it was required in the days when calls were strictly issued by call area, now calls can be moved at will there's no longer a requirement but it is useful with island entity like Hawaii when operated form the mainland.

G4WJS.

Bill,

Yes, you are right. He is using the /4 to indicate the call area. However, that is interpreted by some logging programs as /AH4, which is Midway. Log4OM v2 (my main logging program) considers AH6P/4 as Midway. Log4Om v1 lists it as Hawaii. N1MM+ shows Midway. DXKeeper, as Laurie already mentioned, doesn't list a country, and asks for a country code to be entered. ACLog lists it as Hawaii.  Swisslog shows Midway. If I enter AH6P/W4, all logs correctly show United States. That would probably be the better call for him to use.

I have the same problem with the window not populating on startup.  It was happening with 2.16.4 and is happening with 2.16.7.  Refresh doesn't help.  Need to close and re-open and then it populates, as John said.  It's as if the decodes file isn't being loaded before the window is shown.

Same for me.  I am going to hold off a day or two to see if it just needs to populate the virus program safe list.

When I launch the decodes window, it does not always populate with incoming calls. I have to close it and reopen several times and then all is OK. On a similar item, in the decodes window, the Canadian provinces that were not confirmed are shown as blue, even though I have not checked the Canadian Provinces option. To stop the blue coloring I needed to choose any mode, any band, uncheck all and save. That removed the erroneous blue coloring.

David,
Thanks. I'll keep you in mind in case I need any future HRD support.

I skipped installing HRD .277, since the release notes indicate that it is a minor release, whose only change applies just to those who have upgraded from the 30 day trial.

I am running Maria DB with HRD, and I had just recently updated Maria DB to the latest 64-bit version. This also involved installing the 64-bit version of MS Visual C++ 2015-2019. Previously, I had been running the 32 bit MS Visual C++. After all that, I did not do a reboot. So maybe that has something to do with what I was observing.

Anyway, it seems to be working fine now.

Thanks, 73,
Roger

Hi Roger,

I am glad you got it running.

You are running HRD .275 but .277 is the latest as of this message. You can download it from HRDs web site.

If you had intermittent logging and a reboot cleared it I would take a look at the apps that are running. Possibly one is causing a memory leak. Task Manager should be able to help chase that down.

Feel free to email me direct for any HRD issues as I am on their beta team and willing to help anyone with HRD logging issues. Laurie has done a wonderful job getting JTALERT working perfect with HRD Logbook. My email is good on QRZ.

This offer goes for any other HRD users as well. We can keep the messages direct rather than tying up this group.

Laurie, you can direct HRD related support issues from users to me if you like. I really appreciate your app and I want to contribute.

After a system reboot, the problem has not occurred again.

Exclude all of your ham software folders and data locations.
The antivirus programs are interfering with all sorts of ham stuff including logging QSOs

For Windows Defender: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028485/windows-10-add-an-exclusion-to-windows-security

For example I exclude all of these
c:\Program Files (x86)\HamApps
c:\ProgramData\HamApps
c:\WSJT\WSJTX\bin
%LOCALAPPDATA%\WSJT-X (and any other WSJT-X directories)
%HOMEPATH%\flrig.files
%HOMEPATH%\fldigi.files

Exclude your logging program and it's data files too.
For Log4OM and Log4OM2 I also have
%LOCALDATA%\LogOM
%APPDATA%\LogOM2

If I just run JTalert 2.16.7 the download stops with one second to go and hangs.  Turning off ESAT I can download and get the program to run.  Then if I turn off my PC and then restart later, the desktop icon has disappeared but the program still shows in Add or remove Programs.
Today I'm going thru all messages here with the topic of "exclusion".  Hopefully I can learn how to get all working again. Should I just exclude the program or the entire JTalert folder?  Always something new to learn with these darn PC's..

Hi Laurie,

An update... I am now running WSJT-X 2.2.1 and JTAlert 2.16.7 and both are working nicely. However, the occasional B4 is still not highlighting after a successfully logged contact.

I don't mean to presume anything as I am a retired IT developer in other areas, but it occurred to me that the issue may be in how a call is added to the B4 cache, not how it's looked up.

Today, I had a contact that will not display B4, and then another that worked fine and shows as B4 immediately after a successful log entry.

You probably already considered this and if so please excuse me.

Thanks again for all your great support.

Going to ask the obvious questions:

1.   Did you install JT-Alert by setting the setup to "run as administrator"?

2.   Did you check to see if your antivirus has quarantined any JT-Alert files?

3.   Did anything else change on your system?  There is a Windows update out.

What antivirus are you using?    It has happened previously that some antivirus programs will quarantine program DLLs and not notify the user.    I would make sure you have the HAMLIB directory excluded from scans or, if your antivirus has the capability, to notify you before it tries to 'help' you.

Once you do that, run the JT-Alert setup again.   I suspect your problem will have been fixed.
