And if I might add...Norton is well known to be pretty darn close to a virus
itself.
Do yourself a huge service, uninstall Norton, use MS Defender or any of the free
anti virus software, Avast comes to mind, there are others as well.
Way back when, when virus software was just becoming known about, Norton and
others used to pay the first person to submit a new virus. Then programmers got
wise and created viruses for submission to get the cash. Norton and others soon
stopped paying for new viruses.

Norton Anti Virus has one and only one place in this world...on the shelf.

I'm having trouble getting JTAlertX to automatically log contacts in N3FJP ACLog after moving to a new computer.

JTAlertX will populate the log fields in ACLog but not actually log the contact.  I have to click the log contact button in ACLog to actually log the contact.  I get no confirmation from JT Alert that the contact was logged like I used to.

I know there's a setting I must be missing.  Can anyone help?

Thanks!
OM,

The ACLog fields get populated whenever there is a change in the WSJT-X DX Call. That part is working, indicating that the comms channel WSJT-X --UDP--> JTAlert --TCP--> ACLog is setup correctly.

JTAlert, by default, will display either a "Success" or "Failure" message after logging. JTAlert not displaying a message indicates that JTAlert didn't perform the ACLog logging action and that will be due to JTAlert not receiving the UDP logged QSO packet from WSJT-X.

Very likely you are not performing the WSJT-X Log QSO action. All QSOs must be logged in WSJT-X before JTAlert proceeds to send the QSO to ACLog.

Thanks to all for the information I received trying to get the program to act right. I finally determined the matter was a result of the clock setting, the day setting and the program being out of date. I am on the air now and working stations. Thanks again.

Marty,

With respect, this is something you should be researching either via the Norton help files/manual or by contacting Norton support directly.

Ultimately, your responsible for what happens on your PC. Its your PC running the software you purchased, you should be the one making the changes based on your research. Your a Ham who presumably studied for their ticket, it will take a lot less study to find out how to set Norton to allow the download, IMHO.

OM,

There is no version of JTAlert that will work reliably with Norton. The problem is not JTAlert, but Norton itself.

That requirement has nothing to do with the Grid Chase (per your original post) where any unconfirmed Grid (for each 2018 Calendar month) gets alerted.

Specific Grid alerts are not possible within JTAlert.

OM,

If FH17 doesn't appear as confirmed within your log, the JTAlert Scan Log function will not include FH17 it its list of confirmed Grids which will subsequently allow FH17 decodes to be alerted.

It is not possible to set JTAlert to look for specific Grids. If a Grid is unconfirmed in your log than JTAlert will alert on it.

The JTAlert warning "Unable to communicate with the WSJT-X process" is shown whenever JTAlert doesn't receive a UDP packet from WSJT-X. JTAlert is continually in receive mode waiting for WSJT-X UDP packets and if a packet is not received after JTAlert has been running for at least 30 secs the error dialog is shown.

If your randomly getting this error suggests that something is either blocking the UDP packets being received or they have not been sent from WSJT-X.

Since your running a recent test build of WSJT-X that shows a splash screen during startup make sure that splash screen is closed before you start JTAlert.

I suggest that you not use JTAlert to auto-start these self-compiled release candidates of WSJT-X, but instead start these versions manually and wait till they have finished startup before starting JTAlert.

I just assumed that the only intent of the function was to aid you in chasing a callsign for a new country, state, grid or other.  Rather, while I do use the "Wanted Callsign" for that purpose, I was also using it for seeing when buddies show up on the band, which was effective only until I worked them the first time.  However, your comment regarding the priority is illuminating and most helpful.

de Matt W5MT
Matt,

The Wanted Call alert, obeys the worked B4 checks (as do all the other Wanted alerts) and is not entirely suitable for a Wanted Friend (Buddy) style of alert.

The Wanted Call alert is for those chasing specific Callsigns that wish to work them on each band/mode regardless of whether those Callsigns will generate one of the other Alerts. Some use cases...
  • Chasing a DXPedition to work on as many Bands/Modes as possible.
  • Chasing a specific Callsign that is a known reliable QSL'er (eg. I use this for Callsigns that use LoTW and I  want to get the LoTW confirmations regardless of previous Card confirmations).

A Wanted Friend (Buddy) alert is on the todo list, but unlikely to be implemented until JTAlert V3.

Gridchase if you want to participate in that.
2nd possibility is if you want the grid confirmed and they haven't confirmed your prior QSO for whatever reason.
I notice the 2nd one a bit as I'm doing grid chase so I'll see people worked B4 show up with some bands confirmed and others not.
