I apologize if this has already been asked, but does V2.10.4 work with HRD V6?

Thanks!

You have to start the loger for it to log into ham radio Deluxe.  Look in your directory and find the icon for the logbook. It can be starting in standalone, it does not need HRD to be able to run

Subject: [HamApps] Linking JTALERT to HRD

Hi,

New user here for JT8with WSJT-X and JTALERT and HRD.

Some postings on line suggest automatic connection when logging from WSJT-X through JTALER to HRD.

I have not found this to be accurate.  I get a message tht JTALERT is not communicating with HRD and QSO will be logged to the WSJT-X data file.

I have gone into the settings menu of JTALERT and chosen HRD logging.

My thought is that my original version of HRD was 5 even though I have the latest upgrade.

Should I be choosing VER. 5 of HRD or Ver.5/Ver. 6  I have seen a note that earlier versions of HRD needed correction in fields lower don on that screen.

Anyway want to link logging to HRD.  Log Name mylog??    though I am registered as K9QA.

Am I confused or did I confuse you.

Thanks for your assistance,

Rich, K9QA

I just down loaded the latest version of HRD and received and installed my key.

The boot screen says Ver. 5

I have tried both choices Ver. 5 and Ver. 5/Ver.6

JTAlert in its latest version will I believe connect to HRD v5.  Some earlier versions of JTAlert will connect to HRD v6.  They connect via an ODBC connection.  There is an application that comes with Windows named ‘odbcad32.exe’ and is located in C:\Windows\SysWOW64.  With that application you can look to see what ODBC connections are available to you.  HRD should have created one during installation.

WSJT-X will make logging data available to JTAlert, but it’s up to JTAlert to transfer that data to any electronic log, including to HRD.  The JTAlert author no longer wishes to support HRD.  If you want to know why I would suggest searching this forum, as it has been well discussed long ago.

Good Luck & 73.

Yes, the restart solved the problem.
I should have done this step before bothering you. I apologize.

Great program, Laurie!

Mike,

Sounds like there is a copy of the JTAlert.exe process is still running.

Do a PC Restart to ensure that any zombie processes and file locks are cleared and try the install of 2.10.4 again.

Thanks for the help. When/if it happens again I’ll send the files.

I have removed the auto-start of DXKepper from JTAlertX as suggested.

Also started four WSJT-X and then four JTAlertX. Saves even more to working FT8.

Question 2: DXKeeper is usually running but I do have it set to auto-start. I'll explain this below.

Question 3: JTAlert does not auto-start WSJT-X.

Question 4: Yes the DX Call box is populated with the call sign from the last session.

This is how I start my sessions:
- Start computer and log in
- Turn on Flex 6500. It takes about 45- 60 seconds to do boot-up and do it's calibrating thing and be available to start SmartSDR. One minute seems like a long time since working FT8 so I...
- Start DXKeeper and sync with LoTW.
- Start SmartSDR
- Start WSJT-X with four instances via shortcuts. Slices in Flex talk.
- Start JTAlertX from the shortcut. As the first JTAlertX instance starts I get the pop-up that DXKeeper is already running. I click OK.
- I wait until the tool bar on JTAlertX goes from ??? to the Band for that slice appears. About 15 seconds or so.
- Start the other three instances of JTAlertX again waiting for the Band to appear before starting the next instance of JTAlertX.

--Dave W3DLQ

Dave,

Thanks for the reply and answering all my questions!

I am no closer to an answer.

My initial thinking was that JTAlert was trying to perform a DXKeeper lookup while DXKeeper was still starting. You work-flow shows this is not the cause.

When you next encounter this error, please use the "? -> Contact Support" menu, on the JTAlert title-bar, to send me your Configuration and Session files for analysis.

A couple of points regarding your work-flow..
  • The "DXKeeper is already running" popup is likely due to having DXKeeper set as one of the JTAlert auto-start programs. Since your manually starting DXKeeper, you should disable the auto-start entry.

  • There is no need to start WSJT-X then JTAlert, wait for band update and then starting the next WSJT-X instance followed by the next JTAlert instance. You can start all WSJT-X instances first followed by the same number of JTAlert instances. There are a number of JTAlert users doing this (my self included), one who runs 14 instances.

Thanks Dave, I always start the radio first using HRD and then bring up WSJT. The program reads the frequency correctly and will start sequencing (monitor?decode). It will go into the Tune position and I can send a CQ. It is just not getting any audio to the program. Sandy

If you turn on the radio AFTER the software is opened, it will not see it.  did you try restarting wsjt, and verify there is not other sound card software running
